Cozy up with friends and a drink at these outdoor fire pits

With the weather cooling down, and rain forecasted for basically forever, it's time start thinking about where to cozy up. Be prepared for the first chilly night of the season by already having the perfect date spot in mind -- by the fire, with a drink in hand, of course. These five D.C. bars and restaurants have outdoor fire pits where you should plan to spend the upcoming fall evenings.

Enjoy the full menu at this Mediterranean-inspired restaurant outside by the fire. The fire pits are generally used beginning in October through the colder months, although the patio is open in the warmer weather, too, with wisteria blooms on the patio. Definitely sip on some wine from Iron Gate's extensive wine list while sitting with your date. Iron Gate is open in the evenings Monday-Thursday 5:30 p.m.-10 p.m., Friday-Saturday 5:30 p.m. -11 p.m. and Sunday 5:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Masseria's fire pit with lounge seating is located in the courtyard, which has a cozy golden ambiance. The courtyard is open year-round and the fire pit is used in the fall, winter and spring. Outdoor seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. While sitting by the fire, enjoy any of the drinks on the menu, as well as a special menu with shareable bites for outdoor enjoyment. The courtyard is open during the restaurant's hours, Tuesday to Thursday 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., Friday 5:30 - 10:00 p.m., Saturday 5:00 - 10:00 p.m.

This Shaw restaurant and bar is vibrant and artsy, yet cozy and intimate -- the perfect place for a night by the fire. The full menu is available outside on the patio so enjoy dinner, drinks and a great atmosphere. Hazel is open nightly at 5 p.m.

Pinstripes is best known for its bocce and bowling, but the Georgetown location also has a great fire pit to snuggle up around after playing some games. Don't forget to stuff your belly with their Italian food and cocktail drinks for a night of pure autumn bliss. Pinstripes is open Monday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

La Piazza is located in Avenue Suites in Georgetown and the restaurant is really true to its name in that it's a great place for gathering. Sit by their outdoor fire pit when it gets a little chilly and enjoy a cocktail, beer or wine. Be sure to indulge in a pizza or their well-known small plates. La Piazza is open in the evenings Sunday-Thursday 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 4 p.m. to 12 p.m.
