Out and About: Five events that will help you kick off 2019 the right way

It's the first week of 2019, so it's time to break out of your routine! From New Year's Day and beyond, here are some events to get you started on the right foot

Monday, January 31

It's time to eat, drink and be merry! Check out our guide to the 16 New Year's Eve parties where you can ring in the new year.

Tuesday, January 1

If you're not feeling 100% after a night of imbibing, you can nurse your hangover at one of the many D.C. restaurants offering hair-of-the-dog drink specials and dishes that will revive you.

If you're feeling at least 85%, take advantage of it and start off 2019 with a waterfront 5K! It's free and same-day registration is available.

Expand your musical horizons and hit a show at Echostage. Zeds Dead, a Canadian EDM duo, will be performing that night. Tickets start at $25.

Wednesday, January 2

If you're a Mayor Muriel Bowser super fan, you can catch her being sworn in at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. - the event is free, but you can register online to attend.

Thursday, January 3

Now that your New Year's Eve hangover has (hopefully) dissipated, you can learn how to whip up some tasty cocktails at The Bird in Logan Circle. For $65, a senior bartender will walk you through the basics of mixology. The class is held twice a week, but tickets for this date are limited.

The new year means it's time to pick up a new skill like flower arranging. For $105, the experts at Helen Olivia Flowers in Old Town Alexandria will teach you how to arrange flowers like a pro - this particular class will focus on buttercups.
