D.C. nabbed the 17th spot for the most fun cities in the U.S.! Ok, so it's not exactly breaking news, but considering how much of a bad rap we get for being a stuffy, uptight city, I'm thrilled to hear someone thinks we are fun! And we totally are! In fact, we should be much higher up on that list, IMHO. (Image: Amanda Andrade-Rhoades/ DC Refined)

Having fun yet? D.C. scores high in most fun cities list

An old co-worker of mine used to always walk into the office and say "Are we having fun yet, ladies?" so I can't but help read that headline in his voice! Anywho, now that I'm totally off track in the first sentence, let's get down to business.

D.C. nabbed the 17th spot for the most fun cities in the U.S.! Ok, so it's not exactly breaking news, but considering how much of a bad rap we get for being a stuffy, uptight city, I'm thrilled to hear someone thinks we are fun! And we totally are! In fact, we should be much higher up on that list, IMHO.

Wallethub set out to find the cities with the greatest number and variety of cheap and fun activities. They compared 150 of the largest cities in the US with 58 metrics ranging from fitness clubs per capita, to move costs to average open hours of breweries. Okay – how did fitness clubs and move costs make this list, these aren't fun things?? Although to be fair, things like "beer gardens per capita" and "legality of public drinking" were also factored into this ranking.

Here’s how D.C. stacked up:

  • 2nd -- share of the population with walkable park access
  • 3rd --diversity of restaurants
  • 4th -- presence on TripAdvisor's "Top 25 Beaches" list" (umm what??)
  • 5th -- public swimming pools per capita
  • 5th -- bar accessibility
  • 5th -- beer gardens per capita
  • 5th -- legality of public drinking
  • 6th -- friendliest sports fans (HTTR! Natitutde! Rock the Red!)
  • 132nd -- average wine and beer price
  • 135th -- restaurant meal costs
  • 137th -- cost of living
  • 139th -- average fitness club fee
  • 142nd -- movie costs

As for the entire top 20:

  1. Las Vegas, NV
  2. Orlando, FL
  3. New York, New York
  4. Miami, FL
  5. Portland, OR
  6. Atlanta, GA
  7. San Francisco, CA
  8. New Orleans, LA
  9. Chicago, IL
  10. San Diego, CA
  11. Denver, CO
  12. Los Angeles, CA
  13. Cincinatti, OH
  14. St. Louis, MO
  15. Tampa, FL
  16. Philadelphia, PA
  17. Washington, DC
  18. Austin, TX
  19. Houstin, TX
  20. Seattle, WA

Personally, we don't buy it -- we are way more fun than Tampa! But fine, fine we will settle for 17... for now. Las Vegas, we're coming for ya baby! Click here to learn more.
