How to score $25 tickets to Tina Fey's 'Mean Girls'

Who would have ever thought that a show about teenage girls and their many dramas would become the talk-of-the-town theatrical performance here in D.C.? But when SNL darling Tina Fey's name is stamped on a playbill, people come o'flocking! Plus, as "Mean Girls" lyricist Nell Benjamin told us, "D.C. is a town that has a sense of humor when it comes to power games." Truth!

And sure enough, many of the showings of Fey's "Mean Girls," which is only in town through December 3, have either sold out or only have a handful of tickets left per show. Luckily, we discovered a way you can score $25 seats to the hottest show in town! So, here's the dealio: If you have a flexible schedule, head over to the National Theatre two hours before the show and enter your name in the lottery for a chance to win two $25 tickets. The winners will be announced 90 minutes prior to the show. Individuals must be present, with cash, to redeem tickets.

Juuuust in case you have somehow never seen this iconic piece of film history, here's a brief synopsis of what you can expect from the show:

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this na├»ve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But, when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

You can read all about the show and Fey's thoughts on taking her fan favorite movie from screen to stage here.

This lottery system will also be in place for “Broadway at the National” performances of Les Miserables (December 20, 2017-January 7, 2018), Something Rotten! (February 6-18, 2018) and Waitress (May 15-June 3, 2018).

P.S. Yes, I did consider briefly consider not sharing this gem with all you lovelies, in order to increase my own odds of scoring. Alas, I came to my senses and shared away! But be forewarned, if you get lottery tickets and I don't I'll only have one thing to say to you... "Boo, you whore."

Mean Girls is running at the National Theatre, 1321 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, October 31- December 3; regular tickets start at $48; Non-lottery tickets may be purchased in advance at, by calling 800-514-3849, or in person at the National Theatre Box Office.
