NPS says cherry blossoms will reach peak bloom during first week of April

It will still be a few weeks before the D.C. cherry blossoms reach peak bloom. The National Park Service has announced that they will reach their peak bloom April 3-6.

Last year, NPS said the cherry blossoms reached peak bloom on April 5; the average peak bloom is April 3. However, the predicted peak bloom for the flowers was March 17-20.

Peak bloom lasts for at least several days but can last up to two weeks if weather permits. The best time to visit the trees on the Tidal Basin is 4-7 days after peak.

This year's annual National Cherry Blossom Festival is from March 20-April 14.
