Out and About: 9 events to end April, and start May, on a high note

Monday, April 29

In Peak Bloom: If you're missing the cherry blossoms already, stop by Artechouse to see their augmented reality exhibition, "In Peak Bloom." It includes an atrium full of responsive, projected blooms, plants that respond to your body's electrical currents, a Japanese fable told in virtual reality and, of course, cocktails. Every piece of art in this exhibition was made by women or women-led teams, including an installation from Design Foundry, a local group. Tickets are $16.

Annelies: Discover the drama, the fears, and the hopes of the world's most beloved teen author as music breathes life into the words of Anne Frank, who would be 90 this year. Soprano Arianna Zukerman and the Westminster Williamson Voices received a Grammy nomination for their recording of this powerful work. Tickets start at $18.

Tuesday, April 30

Master Class with Lucky Plush Productions: The Explore the Arts Master Class Series gives you an opportunity to take classes led by some of the most talented and creative artists in the world of dance. This participatory, intermediate to advanced level, class for adults (sorry, no observers allowed) is led by company members from Lucky Plush Productions, a Chicago based dance-theater ensemble. Tickets are $15.

Women Crush Wednesday at She Loves Me: Celebrate the amazing women in your life with a #WCW bouquet from She Loves Me. Place your order by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and She Loves Me will deliver the arrangement on Wednesday. The flowers in your bouquet will come from one of three women-owned farms: Butterbee Farm, Hillen Homestead and Two Boots Farm. A portion of your purchase will go to N Street Village. Costs $35.

Wednesday, May 1

Through the Lens "Saving Africa's Wildlife": Take this rare opportunity to hear from documentary photographer Brent Stirton, who over his celebrated career has exposed the ongoing battle to protect Africa’s wildlife. See—and hear the stories behind—his work in his native continent to reveal the dangers confronting those at the front lines of African wildlife conservation. Tickets are $25.

Pun DMV: Come out and wordplay! You're invited to watch or compete in Pun DMV, on-the-spot punning tournament hosted by Dana Fleitman. At the start of each match, contestants (up to 20 people) are given a theme. They then take turns making up puns on the spot. People are eliminated when they're stumped. Anyone in attendance can compete. Tickets are $6.

Thursday, May 2

Stage Director Talk: Vivienne Benesch, director of Love's Labor's Lost, shares creative insights into the production. A wine reception with light fare is included with your ticket. Tickets are $20.
