28 parklets to check out on PARKing Day 2018

If you need to take a load off on Friday, September 21, you'll have several new mini parks from which to choose! As part of the District's Department of Transportation (DDOT) sixth annual PARKing Day, 28 pop-up parklets will appear in curbside parking spots in five of the District's eight wards; wards 3,5 and 7 are without parks.

According to the DDOT's website, "PARK(ing) Day is an event in which residents and businesses re-think the use of public space by converting metered on-street parking spaces into temporary parks." The event was launched in San Francisco in 2005 but has since spread to cities worldwide and always occurs on the third Friday in September.

Residents and businesses were encouraged to submit their designs to DDOT for approval, and those who were approved will be constructing their parks between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on September 21.

You can see all the pop-up parks mapped out, or find a written location list, below.
