Safeway Feast of Sharing brings holiday cheer to D.C. community

1999 was the first year that Safeway and Events DC joined forces to provide a festive holiday meal for thousands at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Now, 18 years later, this collaborative celebration has become a beloved holiday tradition in the DC community.

The 2017 Safeway Feast of Sharing will take place on November 22 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Volunteers from participating organizations will serve over 5,000 city residents a warm, nutritious Thanksgiving meal. The event will also include a Community Services and Health Expo, safe exercise with Senior Sit and Be Fit and winter clothing distribution – all crucial services for our neighbors in need.

Events DC is one of several partners that collaborate to make the Safeway Feast of Sharing a success. This year’s partners include CBS Radio, Centerplate, SunTrust, MAGNET, Unity Health Care, Projection, The Salvation Army, Digital Conventions and the Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

Gregory A. O’Dell, president and chief executive officer of Events DC, notes how important this event is to his team. “Events DC is proud to continue to host the annual Safeway Feast of Sharing at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center as an opportunity to open up our doors and give back to our residents in need,” he says. “We are so grateful for the generosity and ongoing commitment of Safeway and other local partnerships in the District who have made this important event a bountiful Thanksgiving tradition in the District.”
