His career began as an engineer at Boeing, but not long after going to work for them, Nye began to combine his love of science with his flair for comedy, developing dual careers as an engineer by day and a stand-up comic by night.

Sugarloaf Crafts Festival: (April 21 - 23) Who’s ready for the second gift giving season? Weddings, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and graduations are coming up soon! Luckily more than 250 American artisans will personally show and sell their handcrafted work at the 41st annual Sugarloaf Crafts Festival at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg, Md.

Saturday, April 22

2017 DC Beer Fest: The DC Beer Festival returns to Nationals Park, bringing together dozens of craft breweries and featuring delicious fall seasonal beers. The DC Beer Fest will have over a dozen food trucks throughout as well as lawn games, DJs, and more! Admission is $45 with a choice of two sessions: noon to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm. Admissions includes unlimited tastings, with food sold separately.

March for Science: The March for Science in Washington DC, held on Earth Day 2017, will focus on standing up for facts and science and defending the environment for future generations.

Local Author Expo at Barnes & Noble Tysons: Authors from throughout our area will be in store signing books, meeting fans and reading from their books. A new author arrives each hour events begin at 12 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m. DCR's winter book list author Zachary Barnes will be at the event from 3 - 4 p.m. Make sure to check out his book Avengarde and meet him at the event.

Arlington Festival of the Arts: Washington Boulevard will transform into an art-lover's paradise April 22 – 23 during the 5th Annual Arlington Festival of the Arts. 150 national and international artists are set to display their fine works from across the globe in a prestigious show encompassing fine jewelry, exquisite works of art and hand-crafted apparel and decor.

Olde Towne Pet Resort Rockville Open House: Join Olde Towne Pet Resort, the premier pet care, day camp and boarding facility in the region, as it celebrates its newest location in Rockville with a fun-filled day! From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. guests will enjoy face painting cookies and gift bags. Pets will be treated to pawlates, pawicures, swimming demonstrations, and dog treats.

Filson x FlyTimesDC Fishing Season Kickoff: Premier outdoor outfitter Filson and urban fly-fishing group FlyTimesDC will kick off fishing season in D.C. on Saturday, April 22 from Noon to 5 p.m. with an afternoon of fishing-inspired fun. Fifth Annual Virginia Sole Celebration: The 5th Annual Virginia Sole Celebration will be held at Clarendon Ballroom, 3185 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington, Va. from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. This year’s fundraiser will feature a fashion show showcasing denim apparel by American Eagle, accessories by Kendra Scott Jewelry and shoes by DSW. Since In Christy’s Shoes, was formed in 2009, fundraising efforts has raised over $700,000 to help women find confidence, strength and stability. All proceeds from the event will be directed to non-profit organizations that support and lift up women in challenging circumstances.

GaMay Preview Party: Max Kuller & Fat Baby Inc. restaurants (Estadio, Proof, Doi Moi and 2 Birds 1 Stone) along with other DMV restaurants (like Tail Up Goat, 1789 and Momofuku) are once again hosting the month-long charitable “GaMay” wine fundraiser to raise money for pancreatic cancer research, kicking off May 1st. But on Sunday, April 23 you have the chance to attend a preview party fundraiser 2 Birds 1 Stone. They’ll have $5 GaMay Frosé (created by Adam Bernbach, made with Gamay rosé, rosé vermouth, strawberry, lemon and mint; discounted from $9) and GaMay by-the-glass wine specials from each of Fat Baby’s restaurants, donating $1 from each glass to charity.
