Weekend Report: 10 events not to miss this weekend

Thursday, September 21

D.C. Coffee Fest: Celebrate the District's rapidly expanding coffee scene through September 24, with Dolcezza Gelato. The weekend will include such events as the U.S. Coffee Barista Championship, an intro look at latte art, and a Despaccino (a coffee rum full of Stumptown Hair Bender Espresso and botanicals galore) tasting party.

British Embassy Residence Garden Party: In celebration of the anniversary of the British American Business Association, you are invited to celebrate on British soil! Featuring a special British food menu, wines, musical quartet, diplomats, a departure gift and more surprises.

Friday, September 22

3rd Annual Oktoberfest at Wunder Garten: Wunder Garten (1st & L St NE) is excited to announce the 3rd Annual Oktoberfest will begin Friday, September 22 and continue through Sunday, September 24. The celebrations include traditional German food, games, beer and family-friendly events. Each day will feature steinholding competitions along with a special lineup of events. Draft beers in Oktoberfest Märzen-style hail from Bavaria's oldest breweries like Spaten, Weihenstephaner, Hofbräuhaus, accompanied by a select lineup of seasonal locally brewed beers. Throughout the weekend, Café Berlin will provide authentic German fare, including grilled bratwurst, bauernwurst, bretzels und obatzter, original potato salad, gurkensalat, and sauerkraut.

Dave Chappelle: This D.C. native returns for 17 shows this week and next at Warner Theatre, which is appropriate given that his comedy career started while he was in high school at Duke Ellington School of the Arts right here in D.C.

Echostage celebrates 5th anniversary with free performance from Cosmic Gate: D.C.’s famed concert and nightlife venue Echostage will celebrate its five-year anniversary with a free show on Friday, September 22 featuring internationally-acclaimed DJ duo Cosmic Gate alongside Jason Ross. Partygoers 21+ can enjoy a complimentary open bar from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 23

DC Step Out Walk & Tour de Cure: The ADA National Capital Area will hold the DC Step Out Walk & Tour de Cure at the Washington Monument to raise funds for diabetes research in the DC region. Across the National Capital Area, the ADA has helped more than 200,000 individuals and families living with diabetes. Through research, education and advocacy, the ADA is working to prevent and ultimately cure this disease. Over 3,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event.

Oyster Wars: Join The Salt Line and Other Half Brewing Company for Oyster Wars, an afternoon event showcasing the talents of some of the best chefs, breweries, and oyster farms along the eastern seaboard. The ticket price of $45 includes all you can eat oysters and tastings from chefs and oyster farms. Featured chef tastings will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and cash bar and festivities will continue on throughout the evening.

Shinola’s #MakeItPersonal shopping event: Make a statement with Shinola and personalize your favorite watch, piece of jewelry, journal, or leather item at Shinola’s #MakeItPersonal shopping event. On Saturday, September 23 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., shop the store (1631 14th Street, NW) while you enjoy complimentary monogramming and custom leather painting from letter artist Brian Kaspr.

Art All Night: Unleash your inner night owl in six D.C. neighborhoods during Art All Night, a free night-long experience featuring performing and visual arts of all mediums. Hop around the city from 7pm on Saturday, September 23 through 3am Sunday, September 24.

Sunday, September 24

Yoga at the National Building Museum: Rise and shine at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. Take an all-levels yoga class under the colossal, 75-foot-tall Corinthian columns in the Great Hall of The National Building Museum.
