Weekend Report: 10 events not to miss this weekend

Thursday, September 28

Oktoberfest Party at Roofers Union: Roofers Union in Adams Morgan is hosting an Oktoberfest Party to round out the fall festival. Guests can compete in trivia, which is free to participate and kicks off at 7:30 p.m., for the chance to win oversized boot beer mugs. As space is limited, guests are encouraged to arrive early in their dirndls and lederhosen; best-dressed guests will also receive boot mugs. Roofers Union will pour a selection of Oktoberfest drafts specially for the Oktoberfest Party, paired perfectly with their signature menu items like house-made beer-poached bratwurst and veal heart sausage served on pretzel rolls.

8th Annual Cosmo Couture Fashion & Design: The world is filled with different types of environments; from the natural world as a whole to particular geographical areas. This year the creativity by interior designers will make these environments fashionable and transform them into wearable works of art when the 8th Annual Cosmo Couture Fashion & Design event takes place on Thursday, September 28th in Washington, D.C. Event tickets range from $100-150.

Friday, September 29

Yoga with Beagle Puppies: Yoga with a litter of 7-week old puppies at the Arlington Animal Welfare League! All-level, mellow, yoga practice for people ages 10 and older. BYO yoga mat, and the Animal Welfare League of Arlington will provide the adoptable pups. $25 per person.

Bruno Mars at Capital One Arena (formerly Verizon Center): Bruno Mars is bringing his 24K Magic Tour to the District and you won't want to miss it! The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets start at $162.

Shocktober’s Haunted House Opens for its Eighth Season: (Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from September 29 through October 29) Shocktober’s Paxton Manor will open its eighth season this year with a brand new theme in the basement attraction, “Carnival of Souls”. Formerly, the “Haunted Well of Souls,” is now the new “Carnival of Souls,” the Carver Carnival Family has come back to town to terrorize anyone willing to enter the basement. Online tickets are $35 including Paxton Manor and its basement, and the Carnival of Souls.

Saturday, September 30

6th Annual Wiener 500: Kick off Oktoberfest at the Sixth Annual Wiener 500 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 30 on the boardwalk at The Yards Park in the Capitol Riverfront. $500 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the speediest dogs! Don't have a dog? Come listen to live music by 7 Deadlies, drink cold Samuel Adams Octoberfest Beer, participate in the official Sam Adams stein hoisting competition, munch on great food and watch the funniest race around on a 17 foot jumbotron!

18th annual Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest at Arlington’s Shirlington Village: Capitol City Brewing Company is gearing up for its 18th annual Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest celebration. On Saturday, September 30, more than 65 regional breweries and 30 local restaurants will serve up their best fares at this year’s Oktobefest celebration. The eighteenth annual event runs from noon to 7 p.m. at The Village at Shirlington. Ticket sales begin at 11:30 a.m. and beer taps close at 6 p.m. Entrance is free for children and non-drinkers.

American Field Pop Up Market: American Field, the pop-up market showcasing the latest in innovation and design returns to Washington, D.C. The event will take place on September 30 and October 1 at Union Market's Dock 5. This year's event features over 50 fashion, lifestyle and apothecary brands, including Ball and Buck, Anarke Jeans, and Throne Watches as well as Brothers Artisan Oil, Shwood, Printed Wild - original patterned designs by Eva Colonder using different designing techniques; and Icarus + Co. - a handmade high-end jewelry company inspired by the sea and earth's natural materials; among many many other interesting and local artisans.

Barre and Brunch at Kapnos Taverna: Top fitness talent Chauna Bryant sets up shop in the upstairs mezzanine for a barre class fit for all levels, followed by all-you-can-eat brunch in the downstairs dining room. Guests should bring a mat, towel and water. Cost is $40 for class and brunch.
