Monday, September 10

National Bourbon Heritage Month Pop-Up: The Royal is once again paying homage to “America’s Native Spirit” with the latest installment of its monthly “Royal Knights” spirits exploration series. Guest bartender Alison Hillard of Jack Rose Dining Saloon will collaborate with Royal’s bar managers Jake Kenny and Alonzo Freeman on six creative bourbon-centric cocktails, shining the spotlight on the corn-based brown spirit. Guests can also enjoy boozy homemade candies and discounted bourbon pours throughout the evening.

High Top Drams: Jack Rose Dining Saloon will be pouring complimentary tastes of Russels Reserve single barrels (the 110 proof bourbon + 104 proof rye) and Wild Turkey's Longbranch bourbon, which is a collaboration between Matthew McConaughey and Master Distiller Eddie Russell. The tasting will be hosted at the Saloon hightop tables from 5-7 p.m. Free to attend.

Story District's Throwing Shade: Come on out for a night of true stories about brutal honesty, trash talking and disrespect. Story District continues its 20-year tradition of showcasing locals telling original true stories on a common theme. Be prepared to laugh, think, and possibly tear up as you listen to eight seven-minute true stories about telling it like it is. Featured storytellers include: Mike Baireuther, Graham Campbell, Len Kruger, Lia Seremetis, Anne Thomas, Taylor Williams, Maryam Zaringhalam and Sufian Zhemukhov. Tickets are $20.

Wednesday, September 12

NSO Pops Star Wars A New Hope: Experience the classic original film in the Concert Hall! Join Luke, Leia, and Han Solo on their epic journey as the NSO’s performance of John Williams's Oscar-winning score takes the music to new heights, from the bustling Cantina scene to the foreboding trumpets echoing Darth Vader’s first appearance. Mystics Playoffs Game Three: After two games in Seattle, the Mystics will return to D.C. for their first-ever home playoff game. The Seattle Storm are currently winning the series 2-0. Tickets start at $20.

Evenings at the Edge: Explore the National Gallery of Art after hours at the first Evenings at the Edge of the fall season! Enjoy a sneak preview of the Rachel Whiteread exhibition before it opens to the public on September 16, along with performances from acclaimed bass player (and D.C. native) Ben Williams and tap dancer Jason Samuels Smith. -DJ Adrian Loving will spin British hits, while guests explore the world pf paper embossing, or view a silent film projection. Zoo Uncorked: Get ready for the wildest wine tasting in town at Zoo Uncorked at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. Raise your glass for conservation and enjoy wine tastings from local and national wineries and vineyards in the beautiful setting of the Zoo. Tickets start at $55.

Friend Speed Dating: It can be difficult and sometimes hilariously awkward it can be to make new friends as an adult. Connect with local women at our ever-popular speed-friend-making event.
