It’s a new year, time for some resolutions. Rather than buy a membership to a gym we will go to a grand total of seven times all year or commit ourselves to a month-long vegan soup cleanse, we have decided to brunch more in 2017. That’s a resolution we know we can keep. Whether we’re in the mood for something sweet or savory, these five new options are the perfect destinations on lazy weekends -- aka every weekend!
Clucking awesome new chicken-centric eatery in Logan Circle from the creators of the Pig.
Sweet: Tennessee-style hot chicken accompanied by a maple syrup doused buttermilk waffle.
Savory: Triple fried Korean-style wings lavished with black garlic, mint and cilantro sauce.
Farmers & Distillers
The Founding Farmers team moves into Mount Vernon Square with a vodka distillery and a history-rich menu inspired by George Washington and nearby Chinatown.
Sweet: Freshly fried doughnuts, such as maple glazed, lemon curd filled and Devil’s Food cake.
Savory: Barbeque spiced fried chicken with a crispity-crunchity crust packing just a little heat.
The U Street distillery features far-from-average-pub-fare from Bar Pilar vet Justin Bittner.
Sweet: Challah French toast coronated with seasonal berries, Chantilly cream and pork belly bacon accented with hickory smoke and maple sugar.
Savory: Southern style Benedict starring a fluffy biscuit, poached egg, country ham and a ladleful of green chile Hollandaise.
Occupying the Poste space in Penn Quarter, executive chef Kyoo Eom draws on his Korean heritage to put out eminently shareable plates.
Sweet: Betcha-can’t-eat-just-one chocolate glazed doughnuts.
Savory: Kimchi fried rice topped off with pork belly and a sunny side up egg.
Neighborhood Restaurant Group – the powerhouse behind Birch & Barley, the Partisan and others – debuts in North Bethesda with this American minded pub.
Sweet: Brioche French toast bursting with Nutella and finished off with caramelized bananas and whipped cream.
Savory: Fried chicken resting on a bacon cheddar waffle and drizzled with chile-laced maple syrup.
