Grab your colored beads and plastic babies and get ready for Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday!
We may not be in New Orleans but bakeries in the area are whipping up a taste of the south with their own versions of the infamous King Cake.
Here are seven places in the DMV to get a delicious King Cake:
Bayou Bakery: A limited supply of whole King Cakes will be baked daily for walk-ins. Call ahead to check inventory, otherwise, all king cakes must be pre-ordered 48 hours in advance. Priced at $39.95. Click here to place your order.
Pearl Dive: The famous King Cakes are back! Each cake serves 8-10 people, includes Mardi Gras beads and a baby inside. Priced at $35 each and require a 24 hour advanced purchase. Click here to place your order.
Buzz Bake Shop: Buzz Bakeshop will be selling Fat Tuesday King Cake Brioche Donuts in place of the traditional cake. Both Buzz locations will sell the king cake donuts for $3.25 each on Tuesday, February 28 only. The brioche donuts with a cinnamon glaze will be coated in yellow, green and purple sanding sugar with a small plastic baby inside. The king cake donuts will also be available at Red Apron D Street (they’ll only have two dozen on-hand).
Heidelberg Bakery: Heidelberg King Cakes are a yeast dough with diced fruits, raisins and nuts. Covered with fondant icing and decorated with green, purple and yellow sugar and a plastic baby inside. Serves 6-8 people. Click here to place your order.
Sticky Fingers: Sticky Fingers Bakery will sell King Cakes that serve about six people for $20. Available for in-store pick up February 24, 25, 26 and 28 only. All cakes must be pre ordered 48 hours in advance. Click here to place your order.
Baked and Wired: King Cakes and cupcakes can be ordered from February 24- February 28. All King Cake orders require a 48-hour advanced notice. Priced at $40, the cake feeds 8 to 10 people. Call 703-663-8727 to order.
Acadiana: If you are looking for a sit down meal with King Cake as dessert, Acadiana is your place. The restaurant will offer a $39 prix fixe Mardi Gras menu with King Cake making an appearance on the dessert menu.
