Whether you’re looking for a power boosted morning smoothie or a dinner spot serving cauliflower pizza, Bethesda’s got you covered. Here are the five best healthy restaurants in the area.
Sweetgreen has been a Bethesda staple since it opened in 2009. With seasonal salads and local ingredients, you’ll never get tired of the ever-changing selections. The early summer menu just launched with the return of an all-time favorite, the Mexican Corn Elote. Plus there’s the newly launched Salami + Spicy Pickled Veg to try. If you’d rather a snack, try new menu item Local Strawberries and Honey Yogurt. You know you’re getting the best of the best with Sweetgreen. They work with local farmers to source produce that’s fresh and in season. They work with Schlagel Farms in Waldorf, MD for yellow squash and zucchini, Firefly Farms in Accident, MD for goat cheese and this summer look for the certified True Blue Maryland Crab in the Spicy Crab + Watermelon salad. True Food Kitchen
Opening a year ago, True Food Kitchen has quickly become a Bethesda favorite. Make sure you visit often as the menu changes four times a year (with each season). This summer look out for a handful of new fresh-pressed juices and cocktails, plus a new summer dessert. True Food Kitchen sources local ingredients whenever possible and selects partners that offer sustainable and responsibly sourced products. The summer menu will introduce ingredients that will be at the peak of their freshness and flavor. Be sure to try the Tomato & Watermelon starter, a summertime favorite. The dish is getting a makeover this summer with the inclusion of coconut lime yogurt, basil, mint and toasted pistachio. It’s vegan, gluten free and will likely be a menu favorite. Yum!
If you’re looking for a quick grab-and-go or a place to sit and relax, Cava is a great spot to select. Create your own meal, going for a salad, grain bowl or pita, then add fresh dips, spreads, and a variety of proteins (like grilled chicken, falafel, roasted seasonal vegetables and more). Add another layer of toppings and dressings. The summer menu will launch in June with seasonal roasted vegetables of grape tomatoes, button mushrooms, green bell peppers and sweet potatoes, a seasonal topping of white bean salad, a seasonal spicy lentil soup and a savory spicy apricot dressing. Thanks to the highly customizable menu, everyone will find something to hit the spot.
Modern Market hit the scene in Bethesda Row in August 2016 and has been a go-to for fresh finds. They release new Chef’s Picks several times throughout the year. The current picks are the Truffled Potato Pizza and the Berkshire BBQ Pork sandwich. New items will be coming out in August including a new vegan grain bowl. Many of the ingredients are locally sourced including Compass Coffee, Lyon Bakery, FreeBird Chicken, Jailbreak Brewing and more. Find a real taste of summer and order the Blueberry Pesto Sandwich with fresh mozzarella, basil pesto and housemade blueberry balsamic jam. Tastes like summertime!
Gusto Farm to Street
Whether you’re craving a salad or a heathlified pizza, Gusto Farm to Street has got you covered. Their Farm Fresh Salads are full of crisp seasonal vegetables from local farms and hormone and antibiotic free proteins. Or opt for a pizza, which you can have made on a traditional, whole grain or cauliflower crust. Ingredients are locally sourced from Homestead Farms in Millington, MD, from BrightFarms in Culpepper, VA, from Little Wild things in Washington, DC and more.
