California's beloved Blue Bottle Coffee opens in Georgetown

Fans of 1. coffee 2. Georgetown or 3. California brands transplanting to D.C., rejoice! As of Sunday, July 9 there's a new coffee sheriff in (George)town: Blue Bottle Coffee. And we have it on good authority from a total pro that this coffee is the real deal!

The first of three planned D.C. locations (the others will be in Union Market and at The Wharf complex in SW), Blue Bottle Coffee Georgetown store is celebrating their friends and family day until 3 p.m., giving away free coffee to visitors and donating all proceeds from the day to Bread for the City. The official grand opening will take place this Sunday, July 9, with all proceeds from coffee, pastries and merchandise going to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Guests can expect everything from espresso drinks to pour over coffee, seasonal offerings and pastries.

In a town where coffee inspires diplomacy and filibusters alike, its fold-open storefront with a communal table beckons all to partake in coffee and neighborly conversation. Guests can observe baristas crafting coffee at a standing bar looking toward the brew stations and enjoy pastries, Liège wafels, or toasts in the cafe or on the open-air patio.

Blue Bottle Coffee was founded by James Freeman in Oakland, California, in 2002. What started as a minuscule operation out of a 183-square-foot potting shed using a six-pound batch roaster has since expanded to nearly 40 outposts internationally from L.A to Tokyo, New York and now D.C. But no matter what, Freeman vows to "only sell coffee less than 48 hours out of the roaster to [his] guests, so they may enjoy coffee at peak flavor." The name is an homage to Central Europe’s first-ever coffee house in Vienna, which opened in 1683. Blue Bottle also wants to make sure you enjoy their coffee in the best way possible at home, which is why they have brewing guides for all different mechanisms on their website, as well as a "peak flavor and freshness guide" for each of their coffees.

For coffee fanatics,a visit to this store and a conversation with a barista is a must do this summer!
