Here in the District and its environs, we’re rightly proud that we can now boast of some of the country’s best beer bars, cocktail dens and craft distilleries.

But these places didn’t just sprout up out of the clay soil. They were painstakingly midwifed into being by an obsessed group of brewers, vintners, distillers and bar owners.
