If we didn't get your attention with that headline, I don't know what will! To celebrate their grand opening in Shaw on Friday, August 18 at 6 a.m., Sugar Shack Donuts and Coffee will be giving away a free donut every month for one year to the first 50 customers in line. But if you miss out, it's still worth checking out as other prizes will be doled out throughout the entire opening weekend.
“We are really excited to bring the joy of Sugar Shack donuts to D.C.,” says owner Rob Krupicka. “We are looking forward to being a part of Shaw’s active nightlife, too.”
Yes, that's right, at the first Sugar Shack location in D.C. (there are 9 in Virginia), you'll be able to enjoy your donut with a side of liquid courage. Details are still scarce, but according to a release Sugar Shack sent out on August 4, an intimate craft cocktail bar, called Nocturne, will be hidden inside the Shaw location, with chef Brandon McDermott at the helm.
Sugar Shack originated in Richmond, Virginia and delivers handmade, creative donuts ranging from simple chocolate glaze to maple bacon, chai tea, banana pudding, mimosa, passionfruit green tea matcha, peach fuzzy navel and more. The Shaw location will feature a new night program on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays called Donuts After Dark, with cocktail- and beer-inspired donuts like Right Proper, Stout-Glazed Filled and Apple Cider.
Like other Sugar Shack locations, Shaw will have a full coffee menu including dark, medium and seasonal blends, iced coffee, yama cold drip, lattes, mochas, cappuccinos, cortaditos and more. Exclusive to Shaw (for now) will be a Loaded Frappe, a specialty Frappe "with indulgent flavors developed in collaboration with Nocturne’s Chef Brandon McDermott," according to the press release.
Sugar Shack Shaw, 1932 9th St., NW, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday and 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday
