If the words Pina coladas, punch bowls, mai tai's and such excite you, or if you just want to be reminded of exotic paradises, then you must not miss out on DC's Tiki Trail happening throughout the month of August.
The brainchild of Brian Nixon, the Bar Manager of Truxton Inn and McClellan’s Retreat, the trail includes eight different bars throughout the city. Participating bars include some of the usual tiki suspects such as Archipelago and Hogo, but also include some bars that have gone tiki just for the month of August (McClellan's Retreat), or have a special tiki cocktail for the purpose of the trail (Service Bar, Quarter and Glory).
Here's how it works:
Stop at one of the eight bars to pick up the tiki trail treasure map. Make your way through all the participating bars over the course of the month, order a tiki cocktail, and get your trail map stamped. What's the trease part of it? All participants who complete the trail will be invited to a celebratory Tiki Luao on Sunday, September 3, and each stamp on your map will give you a clue as to the location of this party which will have special punches and cocktails.
You can enjoy boozy cocktails such as the "Welcome to the Jungle Bird" featuring Cotton and Reed rum at at Truxton Inn, classic tiki drinks such as the Mai Tai, or be transported to the beach with leis and thatch covered brick walls in McClellan's Retreat.
Whatever path you take, you are guaranteed delicious drinks and summer fun, so get started on the tiki treasure hunt today!
