I must block this out every year, because when I saw Starbucks was releasing their holiday cups on Friday, November 2, all I could think was THIS IS TOO EARLY! And then annoyed me had to go on a quest to prove just how insanely early this release was... only to discover it is a day LATER than the 2017 holiday cups were released. Perhaps they assume we are all still on a sugar high from our kids' candy stash/the five-pound bag we bought ourselves, so what's one more nauseatingly sweet beverage in our bellies?
Starting Friday, the coffee giant is sharing four classic retro designs. The cups are inspired by Starbucks coffee heritage and holiday nostalgia. Also returning are six fan-favorite holiday beverages: Peppermint Mocha (back for its 16th year), Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulée Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, Gingerbread Latte and Eggnog Latte.
Starbucks said customers who order a holiday beverage on Friday Nov. 2 get a free "limited-edition reusable red holiday cup" and an invitation to join the company in reducing their collective impact on the environment. Customers who get the reusable cup can also get a discount ($.50) on holiday drinks after 2 p.m. from Nov. 3 to Jan. 7.
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Starbucks holiday cup, originally known as the "red cup." Take a walk down memory lane and look at all 20 years of design.
