Ventnor is an Adams Morgan sports bar mainstay. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed, filled with locals, and TV’s in all directions. You got to get the buffalo chicken dip which is a generous portion and comes with a bunch of bread, the nachos are fantastic, and their burgers are pretty good too. You might also want their fried oreos in your life. You will walk out stuffed and happy even if your team collapses.  (Courtesy Ventnor)

The 5 best sports bars in the District

Sports bars can tend to be hit or miss, but really there’s no reason for you to suffer through a bar filled to the brim with obnoxious fans and terrible food while you support your favorite team. Here we tend to lean to bars that are actually great places to watch a game plus drink beer and satisfy all those wing cravings.

These are the top spots in the area to check off all those and have a grand time even if your team disappoints.

Duffy’s

There isn’t a lack of bars with wings in DC, but few can compete with the quality of the wings coming from the Duffy’s kitchen. Hot, crispy and a good size – they come in a variety of flavors from traditional mild to Old Bay dry rub to a Garlic Parmesan. My favorite is the peppery “medium” which still packs a punch. Add to that the hefty portion of tater tots, fried pickles, selection of sandwiches and burgers, plus 15 flat screens AND a patio, and you have one of the best sports bars in the city.

Dock FC

Dock FC is easily the best new place to watch a game in DC. The drinks are excellent, the bar food is insanely awesome, and there are TV’s literally everywhere your eyes land. You should definitely get the Cholula chicken wings and the nachos, but the tacos are where it’s at. They share the kitchen with La Puerta Verde next door, and the tacos which come with tortillas made in house are just super good. Plus, they are open for all sorts of games including early morning football (soccer), AND you can get breakfast all day from Ari’s Diner, also in their family. It literally does not get better than this.

Ivy and Coney

This no frills sports bar of the dive variety is especially popular with the Michigan and Chicago fans. So while it can get incredibly crowded during those games, it’s a great sports bar to catch just about any game alongside a Chicago dog or Coney dog, or other “handheld foodstuffs”. Solid food, solid beers, solid prices. Warning: Cash only, but there’s an ATM in there too. Additional warning: They have Malort.

The Prospect

Located in a prime spot on U Street, The Prospect is a bar that has a ton of space, solid food, and a solid drinks list with beers, ciders, slushies, and cocktails. We are fans of their burgers, Brussel sprouts, and hog wings. You should even be able to take that health conscious friend along, their salads are pretty awesome too!

The Ugly Mug

With massive “towers” of 100 oz beers and a whole lot of food specials for games, The Ugly Mug is a classic neighborhood spot to hit up to watch a game and get some grub. They recently rolled out a new menu with pizzas burgers, mumbo wings and more. Get those pepperoni rolls.
