Where to eat & drink during the March For Our Lives

Big crowds are expected in Washington on Saturday, March 24 for the March for Our Lives, an anti-gun-violence rally organized by students that could bring as many as 500,000 protesters to downtown D.C. The good news is that there are plenty of restaurants and bars offering specials to keep you fueled and going, and raising funds to support causes that many marchers likely support.

Equinox – Street Food To-Go, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.

  • Just one block from the White House, Equinox will be grilling food on their outdoor patio with convenient options to take away so you don’t march hungry. Burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and fries will be offered, with vegetarian options available.

#FoodForOurLives – Multiple restaurants

Chef José Andrés and various Washington, D.C.-area restaurants are banding together through an initiative dubbed #FoodForOurLives offering free meals and discounted offerings for any student under the age of 18 with a valid ID.

Think Food Lab:

  • Conveniently located on Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Think Food Lab will be offering meals for any student under the age of 18 with a valid ID.

The Pig and The Bird, 10 a.m. - Noon

  • The Bird and The Pig will be handing out free bag lunches to students attending the March For Our Lives rally, until they run out.

Sugar Shack Donuts:

  • Sugar Shack Donuts will provide a free donut to high school students at their Shaw and Alexandria locations.

The following restaurants will be offering a 50 percent discount on their meals for students at the specified locations. Timings are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. unless specified otherwise.

  • The CityCenter bakery will donate 10 percent of all profits on Saturday, March 24 to the March for Our Lives Foundation. Students can fuel up in the shop on free granola bars made for the event (with oats, maple syrup, brown sugar, chocolate chips, coconut, dried cranberries, and flax seeds).

Ice Cream Jubilee

  • High school march attendees can get a free scoop of ice cream with ID and picture at the march. Adult marchers can get a scoop for 10 percent off.

Drink for the Cause

  • All EatWell restaurants (Logan Tavern, Commissary, The Bird, The Pig, and Grillfish) will offer a specialty cocktail donated by Opici Family Distributing with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Everytown for Gun Safety. The #Marchforourlives cocktail, a Sicilian Iced Tea will consist of Prosecco, Meletti amaro and a fresh orange peel and will be available from open to close at each location on Saturday.
  • Additionally, Eatwell has partnered with Vida Fitness, which is donating all proceeds from every Sweatbox class that day to Everytown ($34 per class). Proof of purchase will get each exerciser a free mimosa or coffee.

District Distilling

  • They will be donating 10 percent of their sales on Saturday, March 24 to a GoFundMe campaign set up for a student from Stoneman Douglas.

LeDesales

  • The happy hour specials at this modern French eatery will be available all day and would make for a perfect post march stop to relax. Food and drink specials will be available at the bar – a selection of $5 beers, $6 cider, $7 wines by the glass, $8 signature cocktails, along with tartines, thick cut fries, and more.

MXDC Cocina Mexicana

  • This modern Mexican restaurant is offering a prix fixe menu available for a discounted price of $28 per person, from 12 Noon to 5 PM on Saturday, March 24th, with items such as tortilla soup, rockfish ceviche to start and chile relleno to follow.. Margaritas, beer and wine, or refreshing agua frescas will also be avialble.
