You can now experience The Shaw Bijou for less

Hey foodies, The Shaw Bijou wants to give you a present, just in time for the holidays! If you have not yet been able to experience chef Kwame Onwuachi's debut restaurant due to the hefty price tag that comes with the tasting menu ($185 per person before tax, tip or drinks), you now have the opportunity to experience a few dishes and cocktails at the second floor bar for much less. After just a month and a half of business, The Shaw Bijou is already making changes, as they originally planned to use the 40-seat space as a members-only bar, but have now opened it to walk-ins, allowing the general public greater access.

The upstairs bar is made up of bar stools (it feels wrong to call these gorgeous Icelandic sheepskin-covered chairs "bar stools" but alas), tables and a lounge area where guests are welcome Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 p.m. through midnight. Custom cocktails from bartender Ben Long, wine selections from sommelier David Blackburn and several small plate options will all be available; the cocktails will run you $14-$17 while food ranges from $14-$34. In comparison, a dinner for two with the tasting menu and wine pairings can cost upwards of $900.

“Our focus has always been creating a restaurant that feels like attending a dinner party with your best friends,” said Onwuachi in a press release. “This new option for our bar is just another opportunity to extend that invitation into our home where people can come in, order a drink, bite to eat and enjoy each other’s company.”

The current bar menu includes:

  • Carrots with pesto, peanuts and lime
  • Shrimp chips, avocado pistachio and black lime
  • Seared foie with lobster marmalade and charred pineapple
  • Roasted lamb head with m’semen bread, ahi amarillo and foie sauce
  • Roasted squab with red bean sofrito and pepper jus
  • Grouper stew with king crab sofrito toasted pepitas and crispy rice
  • Chocolate cake bites with whiskey sauce
