Bliss out with spa treatments and yoga classes for National Relaxation Day

We admit it: those food and drink “holidays” can sometimes feel a wee bit contrived. But a day that invites you to unwind, loosen up and de-stress? Now that’s something we can get behind. National Relaxation Day is (today) August 15. Take a moment to celebrate yourself with area spaaaaah services and rooftop yoga classes. Namaste.

Political Detox Body Treatment at The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel

Available last year during election season, this treatment was so popular that the spa at the Georgetown hotel added it to its permanent menu. (It’s safe to assume we could use it again during these stressful times anyway.) A scrub of Dead Sea salts rich in mineral content and blended with rosemary and citrus essential oils stimulates circulation while sloughing away dull, flaky skin, followed by a soothing moisturizer. The end result? Softer skin that’s polished and smooth. “The Political Detox Body Treatment is particularly relaxing because it allows guests to scrub away layers of stress and anxiety that have taken hold of the body,” says spa and fitness club director Julia Boeminghaus. “The invigorating scrub polishes, smoothes and softens the skin for a mindful moment away and a rejuvenating re-start.”
$175 Monday through Thursday, $185 Friday through Sunday and $210 on holidays and special events.

Mindful Yoga at The Watergate Hotel

Enjoy panoramic, rooftop views of the Potomac River and the Washington Monument from the Top of the Gate while master yoga instructors lead you through a transformative experience combining elements of vinyasa yoga and mindfulness, focusing on movement, breath and guided visualization techniques. Touted to alleviate stress, strengthen the body and refocus and re-energize the mind, the classes are followed by a healthy, immune-boosting juice or protein drink of your choice from the Juice Bar. (Select classes will also include a continental breakfast.)
$35 for classes on August 16 (7am-8am), August 23 (7am-8 am), August 30 (7am-8am), which include the Juice Bar; $55 for classes on August 19 (10am-12pm) and August 27 (10am-12pm). Participants must supply their own yoga mat and towel; changing and locker facilities are available at The Watergate Hotel.

Vinotherapy Massage at The Spa at The Jefferson Hotel

Wine + massage = what more could you ask for? This signature 60- or 90-minute treatment from Olavie includes an anti-aging and nourishing massage, all thanks to an extract from Chardonnay grape seeds. “Thomas Jefferson had many passions and lived an extraordinary life, [and] his love of wine is well documented, which is why we offer Vinotherapy treatments at the spa,” explains front office manager and spa manager Vivian Roussel. “This treatment is perfect for National Relaxation day and what is more relaxing than to top it off with a glass of Chardonnay at Quill?” Indeed.
$175 for 60 minutes, $235 for 90 minutes. The 90 minute massage includes a glass of wine at Quill.

Rose Quartz Massage at Kimpton Lorien Hotel Spa

Soothe the body and center the mind with a relaxing massage at the Lorien Hotel in Alexandria that uses two heated rose quartz stones. Known for its properties related to all kinds of love--self-love, family, platonic, romantic, and unconditional--as well as healing and reassurement, rose quartz also holds its heat longer than traditional hot stones. This treatment uses aromatherapy essential oils to bring tranquility and calm.
$125 for 50 minutes.

Vichy Rain Body Polishes at the Spa at MGM National Harbor

The spa at the resort and casino offers five Rain Polishes, all based on your mood and inspired by local history, and each offers exfoliating, hydrating and nourishing properties. Choose from intoxicating Tobacco Vanilla, refreshing Pine and Citrus, energizing Bourbon and orange, hypnotizing cherry blossom and relaxing lavender and white pepper. Come early and take a soak on the whirlpool, as you won’t want to wash off all of those amazing products after your polish is over.
$155 for 65 minutes.

The Red Door Signature Stress Melter Ritual at The Red Door Spa at the Willard InterContinental Hotel

An integration of soothing services, this ritual uses an invigorating and softening olive oil scrub to refresh and renew skin, an aromatherapy body wrap to hydrate and restore lost moisture, and a targeted massage and warm cream application, all designed (as the name suggests) to melt stress and rebalance your spirit. "This two-hour treatment is the trifecta of services to deeply relax and restor body and mind," says Wintana Alem, senior general manager.
$235 for 120 minutes.
