D.C.'s best nail salons by neighborhood

The District is made up of neighborhoods, like every other city in the world. But when it comes to D.C. neighborhoods, they are all so distinct and special in their own little way. A Washingtonian is always proud to say what 'hood they reside in but may not take the time to metro to the other side of the city all that often. (Who wants to be on the Metro any longer than necessary?)

That’s why we’re rounding up the best hot spots in each area. Each week we’ll tackle a new category and new area and let you know which spot does it best in your neighborhood. Got suggestions? Just shoot an email to cirizarry@sbgtv.com.

This week: Nail salons worth knowing in D.C. neighborhoods.

Next week: Nail salons worth knowing in Northern, Va.

Georgetown:

Vicky's Nail Boutique: Vicky's Nail Boutique just looks like somewhere you would want to spend your spring and summer afternoons getting a brightly colored mani and pedi in a brightly colored yellow house. Located in the heart of Georgetown, Vicky's offers weekdays specials Monday - Wednesday, where you can get a UV Gel Set + Regular Pedicure for $85 or Manicure + Spa Pedicure for $55 and student discounts any day of the week. Receive a student manicure for $15 or pedicure for $30. This is the perfect place to hit up with your girlfriends after a day of shopping in Georgetown.

DuPont:

Mimosa Salon: "I don't like free mimosas," said no one EVER. Mimosa Salon in DuPont is perfect for the working Washingtonians. The salon is open from 9 a.m. - 11 p.m. seven days a week and they offer happy hour Monday -Wednesday that includes two glasses of champagne, and a pedicure or gel manicure for $25.

Logan Circle:

The Nail Saloon: At the Nail Saloon you can expect perks like scrubs mixed in-house, lotions and oils sourced from organic apothecaries, and complimentary beverages from cappuccinos to cocktails. They don't offer gel or shellac due to concerns about the harsh removal process, but special drops help manicures dry in a flash. The Nail Saloon is the place to go in Logan Circle for a superior quality, non-toxic manicure or pedicure in a hyper-clean environment. The Saloon only uses 5-free color, polishes without Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Resin or Camphor. They only use tools once or tools that have been medically autoclaved. Three percent of the Saloons daily profits are donated to organizations that promote community empowerment in D.C. neighborhoods.

Friendship Heights:

Varnish Lane: We are no strangers to the wonderfulness that happens at Varnish Lane, which opened in February 2015. The family-run business combines the Dunne family's passion for design with their penchant for perfection, offering treatments with 100 percent locally made and chemical-free products formulated just for the salon. The unique waterless treatments are not only safe, but environmentally friendly, saving up to 18 gallons of water per service. Your chair is equipped with an iPad loaded with magazine, you have tons of 5-free, designer brand polishes to choose from, and the gel manicures use LED lights instead of UV.
