Halloween is such a fun holiday - You get to dress up in a cool costume and eat enough candy to feed a small village.

So before you consume all that sugar, get your heart rate up by participating in one of these fun Halloween themed races...then you can feel less guilty about eating all the Reese's before the kids start ringing the doorbell.

Saturday, October 22

Blood and Guts Run 5k: (Centreville, Va.) Find your way over and through obstacles to avoid the zombies that are chasing after you! This is far from an ordinary 5k, dress in your favorite scary costume and run before they zombies catch you. Upon completion, you will receive a custom medal and access to a live DJ dance party. Participants will also have access to food trucks, a beer garden, costume competitions, and more! Registration is $35.

Saturday, October 29

Ghost, Ghouls, and Goblins Spooktacular 5k: (Ashburn, Va.) Put on your favorite spooktacular costume and head out to Ashburn for an afternoon of Halloween fun! The event will center on the “spooktacular” theme of Halloween and incorporate a costume contest, Halloween-themed entertainment, trick or treating, Halloween activities, and more! Runners are encouraged to run in costume and enter the costume contest after the race. Registration is $30 until October 15, $35 from October 16 - October 27, and $40 on race day.

Halloween Hustle 5k: (Montgomery Village, Md.) Proceed if you dare...Watch out for ghosts along the haunted trails of Watkins Mill Road! Immediately following the race, runners and spectators are invited to partake in a special “I Survived the Halloween Hustle” awards ceremony and festivities. This includes trick-or-treating at all vendor tables, a moon bounce, music, and much more. Registration is $25 until October 7, $30 from October 8 - October 28, and $35 on race day.

1785 Howlin' Haunted Halloween 5k: (Charlotte Hall, Md.) Start your Halloween weekend the right way with a haunted run through the haunted Charlotte Hall Three-Notch Trail! Dress to impress in your Halloween costume for the competition will be fierce for the best costume awards! Registration is $25 until October 26 and $30 from October 27 until race day.

8th Annual Headless Horseman 5k: (Frederick, Md.) The Headless Horseman is a great race for all ages to get into the Halloween spirit with a little exercise. Runners are encouraged to wear costumes and stick around after the race for prizes and fun spooky activities. Registration is $25.

Mud Dog Run – Zombie Edition: (Frederick, Md.) This 5K course will have over 18 obstacles ranging from mud pits, cargo nets, climbing walls and other grueling obstacles .The trick is that there will be zombies all over the course trying to pull flags off the runners. The object is to finish the run with at least one or more flags to stay alive. If the runner at any point during the run does not have any flags left, they become part of the undead (You can still finish the run but you will finish through the dead shoot). Registration is $74 after midnight on October 15 or $80 Onsite (if wave registration is available).

Sunday, October 30

Monster Mash Dash 5k: (McLean, Va.) It was a graveyard smash (Sorry, I had to). Get into the Halloween spirit and run the 3rd annual Monster Mash Dash 5k and 1-Mile Fun Run! Go decked out in your Halloween best and you could be the winner of the costume contest. Registration is $35.
