We're back with another ShapinUp workout! May's workout is all about stairs. This is the perfect routine to take outside -- you'll enjoy the Spring weather while challenging yourself with this cardio and strength workout.
All you need for this workout is a long set of stairs. The longer the staircase you can find, the more you'll get out of this workout. If you're not sure where to head, don't worry, D.C.'s got amazing staircases for you. Check out the Exorcist Steps in Georgetown (be careful running these!), use the stairs at the Lincoln Memorial, or just head to a set of local high school bleachers.
Stair workouts are so powerful as they'll tone muscles that you might not otherwise target when running or walking. While doing your stair runs, keep a tight core. Not only will this work your ab muscles (added benefit), it will also keep you balanced and will protect your back from hunching or straining.
