Just because the cold weather has settled in and old man winter is right around the corner doesn't mean those running shoes have to gather dust. There are still plenty of ways to log those miles by participating in a fun holiday-themed run!

Here are seven runs happening in and around the District this December:

Saturday, December 3

2016 Jingle Bell Run: The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run is a fun way to get out, get moving and raise funds and awareness to cure Arthritis. Wear a holiday-themed costume. Tie jingle bells to your shoelaces. Show off your ugly Christmas sweater and complete a 5k run or walk.

Sunday, December 4

Jingle All the Way 5k: Have a festive time in the heart of Washington D.C.! The Jingle All the Way Run is a holiday themed race that draws a huge crowd of costume-clad participants. Warm up with great freebies including hot refreshments, a Mizuno gift card, a long sleeve technical shirt, and some jingle bells you can tie to your shoes or outfit.

5k Run with Santa: Get into the holiday spirit by taking on a 5k at Reston Town Center with Santa! Also, don't forget to wear your favorite holiday gear or costume for the race!

Saturday, December 10

The 12K's Of Christmas Holiday Run: Run a 12k or 5k at the C&O Canal Towpath in a sea of Santas. Finisher T-shirts and apple cider will be waiting for you at the finish line.

Reindeer 5k Run/Walk: Put on your favorite Reindeer ears and get to flying down the race course!

Frosty 5k: Keep your running shoes fired up this winter and hit the road for the Frosty 5k at Fairfax Corner! The Frosty 5k benefits the Robinson Secondary School Track and Field Teams.

Saturday, December 17

Ugly Sweater Run: Rummage up the ugliest sweater you can find and celebrate the holidays by participating in the most cheerful 5K of the year. Join thousands of runners, walkers, and prancers from around the nation as The Ugly Sweater Run makes a stop in the nation's capital.

Saturday, December 31

Festival of Lights 5k: The 5k race will run through a portion of the spectacular Bull Run light show. This is a wonderful time to enjoy friends and family while getting an evening of exercise in before the New Year starts. Refreshments and awards will be handed out after the run.
