Upgrade your workout gear (and break a sweat) at these 4 D.C. shops

There are a lot of options when it comes to buying workout gear. Shops now go above-and-beyond, offering you more than just great workout apparel, with workout classes (which are often free) that bring together the community.

These four shops provide quality workout gear--everything from comfortable athleisure to technical gear for training and racing--and feature local events, group runs and opportunities to sweat it out with your fellow Washingtonian. When you're ready to upgrade your workout gear, or are looking for a weekend workout to get you moving, here are the top places to visit.

Outdoor Voices

Outdoor Voices (or as the insiders call it, OV) opened in D.C. last October, making it one of the newer shops to hit the D.C. athletic-wear scene. OV makes products for recreation and creates gear that encourages the community to be out #DoingThings, like walking the dog, biking, jogging, rock climbing and beyond. The D.C. audience is currently loving the Springs Leggings, thanks to their versatility. The Georgetown OV shop is the first to feature a Rec Room which provides a zone for all the tools you need to get outside and start #DoingThings. The space has lockers for storage as you shop, plus equipment like jump ropes and basketballs. The shop hosts weekly events, like the OV DC Joggers Club and Knockout Night (hosted 3/25 at Equinox Sports Club). Stay up-to-date at events.outdoorvoices.com/washington and follow @ovwashdc to see the latest gear and happenings.
