5 tips to jumpstart your New Year's Resolution to be more organized

With 2018 just around the corner, it is time to start thinking about your New Year’s resolutions. Sure, being healthier or traveling more are common goals, but getting organized is usually at the top of most lists. And what better place to start the organizational process than the closet? Getting help from a professional organizer like Closet Factory helps to take the stress out of getting yourself on the organized bandwagon.

I recently worked with Closet Factory to transform an extra bedroom into my dream dressing room, and they made the entire process seamless from start to finish. I can’t stress enough just how much proper closet organization has changed my daily routine!

If getting organized in 2018 is at the top of your resolution list, check out our five easy tips below.

1. Pick up the phone

It sounds simple, but making the decision to get organized is the first step. Closet Factory will connect you with a design consultant who can set up your in-home design meeting.

2. Have an idea of what you want, but be open-minded

Your personal designer will come to your home with samples of cabinetry, different finishes and hardware for you to touch and take into your space to see what works best for you and your organizational needs. It is a really great idea to have an inventory list ready for your designer, as this helps them understand exactly what will be put in the space and how they can lay out your design.

3. Prepare your budget and stick to it

After the in-home visit with your design consultant, they will begin to start building 3D renderings of your space, which is a great way for you to see what it will look like and to visualize the finished product. You will also talk in detail about your budget and exactly where it went into the design. Visiting the local showroom is also a great way to get inspiration if you want to make any changes to your design. If you are happy with the design, you will sign a contract and your new organizational dreams can begin.

4. Be patient

Depending on the scope of the project, it will take about a month from the moment you give the go-ahead until you set your install date.

5. Prepare for install day

You will have professional installers show up in the morning and begin the install process, so make sure your space is picked up and as clutter free as possible so they can easily move around. Once the install is done, it's time to start stocking the closet-- the truly fun part!

Happy organizing!
