This Colonial-style condo was originally built in the early 1700s as a simple farmhouse. In the 1790’s it became a social club and meeting hall frequented by our first President, George Washington and his close friend George Mason, Father of The Bill of Rights -- we can only imagine the late night debauchery, er we mean intellectual debates, that went down here! Check out this colonial condo that was once the stomping grounds of George Washington

When I think of George Washington, many things come to mind: Mount Vernon, freedom, the Revolutionary War, strong leadership, etc. Life of the party wouldn't exactly top my list of word associations for the father of our country. But apparently, our beloved forefather was quite the social butterfly, and was well known for dancing late into the night at various balls. Turns out one of his favorite local gathering spots is now a house in Old Town Alexandria, and just so happens to be on the market!

This Colonial-style condo was originally built in the early 1700s as a simple farmhouse. In 1790 it became a social club and meeting hall frequented by our first President, George Washington and his close friend George Mason, Father of The Bill of Rights -- we can only imagine the late night debauchery, er we mean intellectual debates, that went down here! In 1793, the property was purchased by Thomas White, the chief clerk for Robert E. Lee during the Civil War, and the home remained in his family for over 125 years. The house was sold in 1925 and eventually became the Old Club Restaurant, which opened in the 1940s and operated through the '80s when it closed for good. Again, the property exchanged hands in 2004 -- the building returned to its roots as a residential space and was converted into a boutique luxury condo, which opened in 2008.

The two-level condo feels much more like a house, and has maintained much of the original structure, such as the original slate floors in the kitchen, family room and main level hallway and the exposed original brick walls and floors in the living and dining rooms. The historic aesthetic is carried throughout the home, especially in the master bedroom with reclaimed cherry wood floors and exposed beams. However, all of the appliances and windows are state of the art, and were installed in 2008.
