We hate to be the bearer of bad news butyet another study has come out proving just how expensive rent prices are in Washington, D.C.
Rent Cafe looked at how many square feet a renter can get with a budget of $1500 dollars a month in the 30 most populous US cities. The forecast isn't great for D.C., but the silver lining is that it could still be worse; D.C. came in as the fifth worst, behind New York City, San Francisco, Boston and San Jose.
In our beloved city, $1500 will get you an apartment of 558 square feet. Yikes!
The city with the smallest square footage is NYC, with 271 square feet and the best bang for your buck is in Memphis, Tennessee with almost 2,000 square feet.
The hypothetical Manhattan studio that you’d get for $1,500/month, fits loosely inside the living room of a four-bed, three-bath Memphis home you could rent for the same amount of cash.
So... mass exodus to Memphis anyone? I mean, I hear they have killer barbecue!
