With all of the Marie Kondo madness, home organization has been on everyone's minds lately. While it may not be the sexiest topic, I promise that an organized home will simplify your life and leave you happy with your space.
The key to organizing your home is to make it approachable and beautiful -- you are more likely to keep things organized if you enjoy looking at all the organization you have created. This is where baskets come in. Baskets allow you to keep everything in its place, while adding an element of design to your space. Whether you use them in plain view or hidden away in drawers, baskets allow you to find a designated space for what what otherwise become clutter.
Hide away your unsightly dirty clothes in plain sight, and save room in your closet for other storage by simply buying two large baskets and placing them in your bedroom. Keep in mind your color scheme and overall look of your bedroom space when choosing laundry baskets. I suggest getting two: one for colors and one for whites.
Add baskets underneath your hanging clothes inside your closet for socks, sporting gear, workout gear, extra hangers, etc.
And don’t forget your night stands. I feel as though we all open our nightstand drawer and grimace, as things are just thrown in haphazardly. Use this opportunity to add zen to your life by getting shallow baskets that fit inside your drawers to organize the chaos.
The living room is the perfect place to hide overflow items. Use baskets to make the storage super incognito. Do you have extra workout gear? Stick it in a basket in your entertainment center. If you don't have enough room in your kitchen, sit a basket on a side table for extra entertaining essentials. A basket can be the perfect way to store your alcohol in an aesthetically pleasing way on your bar cart, or in your bar area. It will also make it feel more purposeful than just a bunch of random bottles. Need extra blankets for those cold D.C. winters? Add a basket at the end of your couch where you can just reach in to cuddle up for a good movie.
You can use a decorative basket as a trash can. CB2 has great wire basket options that can easily double as a waste bin. If you don’t know where to put extra toilet paper or deodorizing spray, look no farther than the back of your toilet. Find a basket that fits and add all your essentials so you and your guests always have everything you might need at the ready.
Finally, my favorite part of baskets is that you can find them all over the world. West Elm and CB2 are great places to find what you need, but the next time you are traveling, look for beautiful baskets to bring back as souvenirs. Not only will it help you stay organized at home, every time you look at it, you'll be reminded of your adventures.
Happy organizing, babes!
