This Middleburg Airbnb feels like staying in a European retreat

Who is interested in a European-style getaway that is only an hour away from downtown D.C.? Everyone! I recently stayed at the most luxurious and well-designed Airbnb I have ever seen: The Hunters Retreat in Middleburg, VA. Usually, when I plan a weekend getaway I always start by choosing my destination first and my hotel or Airbnb second. But this time was different: I have been dying to experience this incredible property for some time now and created the entire getaway based around this gorgeous 200 year old home.

The Hunters Retreat was designed and owned by Natascha Folens of NF Interiors. Natascha is an interior designer who brings modern Belgian design to her clients in the DMV, the East coast and Europe. Coincidentally, Natascha designed my master bathroom, though I didn’t even realize she owned The Hunters Retreat until after I booked my stay.

When you first set foot in the beautifully appointed home, you immediately feel as though you have been whisked away to a European retreat, and the warm and inviting space will have you wishing you could stay forever. We were greeted by bouquets of freshly cut flowers from the garden on tables throughout the home. The neutral tones and use of natural wood brought a modern, eclectic and relaxed feel to the interior spaces while keeping the beautiful original details to allow you to truly appreciate the deep rooted history of the home. The main house offers three bedrooms and the master bath boasts a massive stone tub that is just perfect to soak in.

The kitchen’s functional layout with wood beamed ceilings, a fire place and massive dining table make the perfect spot to whip something up, so if you love to cook, make sure to stock up on groceries before you arrive. I also highly suggest you take advantage of the European way of life by dining alfresco. You might not ever want to go back inside the home once you experience the incredible backyard. The backyard terrace boasts a 10 person dining table, multiple comfortable lounging areas, a breakfast nook and an outdoor fire pit that is perfect for summer s'mores.

The Hunters Retreat is set in the rolling green hills of Middleburg’s horse country and is the perfect spot to live at a slower pace. Bonus: if you have horses, they can come too! The property has a barn and fenced pasture and there are lots of places to enjoy a horseback ride near the property. You do need to contact Natascha ahead of time, however, regarding your horses.

Middleburg is also a great escape from the city and is known for its upscale, yet laid back feel. When you aren’t enjoying the rustic elegance of the Retreat, you can experience quaint antique shops, upscale dining, a wonderful spa at Salamander Resort, and some of Virginia's great wineries. You won’t forget a perfect a weekend getaway at The Hunters Retreat!
