When life is feeling a bit too hectic, it's important to take time to relax and reset, and a quick weekend getaway can often do the trick. The Ivy Hotel, a Relais & Châteaux property, nestled in downtown Baltimore is the perfect spot to splurge on a weekend for yourself. With its luxurious suites, excellent cuisine and attentive staff, this incredible property will leave you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to take on a new work week.
Upon check-in, you are greeted by the concierge with a flute of champagne, and given a tour of the four historical buildings that make up The Ivy Hotel to help you get your bearings. The interior is classic meets whimsy with a whole lot of refinement thrown in. There are countless cozy corners that are perfect for catching up on the newest best seller you have been dying to read.
One of the perks of staying at the Ivy Hotel is the luxury offered to each and every guest throughout the entire stay. As you get settled into your room, you are greeted with a beautiful cheese platter and a fully stocked mini bar. Each morning you can choose to enjoy a tantalizing breakfast in the dining room, or in the privacy of your suite -- either way, I highly suggest ordering the lemon soufflé pancakes. Savor afternoon tea served in the library, conservatory or living room after a morning spent exploring Baltimore. The fully-stocked,self-serve bar in the lobby is ideal for a pre/post-dinner drink. Oh and did I mention that two in-room movies, valet parking and a private car (for a three-mile radius) are also included in your stay?
One of the best parts of a stay at Ivy Hotel are exploring the eight unique suites and 10 bedrooms, each of which is decorated in a different color palette. Guests often make repeat visits to Ivy Hotel just to experience the various suites, or request to stay in their favorite suite. The suites all boast incredible bathrooms, with deep, free-standing soaking tubs and free-standing showers, plus a sitting room with a fireplace. Although you absolutely can not go wrong with any of rooms and suites, my favorites are:
The subdued color palate of suite seventeen is ideal for relaxation due to the white and creamy hues. The fireplace and canopied bed exudes luxury, making it the type of room you never want to leave, while the spacious bathroom with its slanted ceilings makes quite the statement.
This suite is really a group of rooms: a large living room with sofa, fireplace, and breakfast nook; a bedroom with a magnificent canopied king bed with two chaise lounges to curl up to next to the fireplace; and a grand bathroom.
This duel-level suite is the ultimate in privacy. Spanning the second and third level of the hotel, this suite has its own private entrance (perfect for dodging the paparazzi) and allows for direct access to the Ivy’s incredible spa.
Speaking of spa time, no staycation is complete without a spa day. The Ivy's massage therapists will listen and cater treatments to your every need, and will ensure your time at the spa is the epitome of relaxation.
You can't leave the Ivy Hotel without experiencing a dinner at Magdalena. The menu changes seasonally and focuses on fresh local ingredients curated by chef Mark Levy. Each dish is almost too beautiful to eat -- almost being the key word -- and the venison in particular was memorable, as it was melt-in-my mouth tender.
If you're looking for a reason to make a trip to Baltimore, experiencing the Ivy Hotel is reason enough!
