It doesn't matter if you're into skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, ice skating, or getting pampered at the spa – the resorts at Liberty, Roundtop, and Whitetail have what you're looking for in a weekend getaway. All three resorts are located within an easy ride of the D.C. area for a day or two-day trip and offer your favorite snow-filled activities seven days (and nights!) a week. No snow in your backyard? No problem! All three resorts have 100 percent snowmaking coverage and keep the slopes buried in fresh snow all winter long.
Don't know where to begin or which resort best fits your style for a weekend trip? We mapped out 48 hours of fun at all three locations, so you can choose the one that's right for you. And hey, if you can't decide, follow our itinerary and check out all three! Lift tickets and passes are valid at all three resorts, so that you can ski multiple mountains on your getaway.
Fuel up with a Friday night dinner at one of many dining options at Liberty Mountain Resort. You can enjoy magnificent views, tasty beers, and creative pub food at the Eagle & The Owl, devour hand-cut steaks and chops with a carefully curated wine list at Ike's Chophouse, or grab a sandwich and craft beer at McKee's Tavern.
Once your belly is full, bundle up, and check out the ice skating pond in the heart of the Alpine Courtyard at Liberty.
Let your nose lead you to The Bakery at Liberty and indulge in fresh-baked cinnamon buns and a Starbucks pick-me-up. Then take your pick from a range of activities! You can either
1. Hit the slopes! If you are a seasoned veteran, Liberty offers slopes for all ability levels on both sides of the mountain.
If you need equipment, Liberty has you covered with a huge ski and snowboard rental shop. If you have your own equipment, a tune up at the Liberty Mountain Sports Shop will have it performing like new.
First time on the mountain? Check out the award-winning Ski & Snowboard School (available at all three ski resort locations). The instructors will walk you through how to ski and snowboard with confidence, so that you can tackle the slopes on your own.
(Psst! Don't miss our "Five things to know for your first time out on the slopes.")
2. Enjoy a morning at the Laventide Salon & Day Spa, where the massage therapists can work out any trouble spots before you spend the day on the mountain. Check out their long list of facials, skin treatments, and nail services too for an ultimate experience.
It's time to go snow tubing and zip lining at Roundtop Mountain Resort. Roundtop features up to 14 large tubing lanes with runs up to 800 feet long and have a vertical drop of 80 feet! Roundtop offers all day tickets so you can tube, take a break for lunch and return for more fun afterwards.
Enjoy dinner at Roundtop and warm up by a cozy fire with gourmet burgers and flatbread pizzas at Fireside Pub & Grill, or get an on-the-go meal with a wrap or salad from the Food Court.
After dinner, enjoy more tubing action and the special thrill of the 700' dual zip lines. The Mountain View Lodge features a variety of food and drink (including hot chocolate), cozy fireplaces, and an incredible view for when you need a breather.
After snow tubing, you'll head back to Liberty to spend the night.
Start your Sunday at the third and final resort. Pop by Daybreak Café at Whitetail Resort for coffee and a baked good, and head out to the mountain and perfect those ski and snowboard skills! If you're ready for a new challenge, head back to the rental shop and swap your skis for a snowboard (or vice versa). You never know which sport you'll excel at!
Once you've worked up an appetite, check out one of the dining options at Whitetail, like Mountain Hearth Pizzeria, who serves brick oven delights like strombolis, calzones, lasagna, and of course, pizza, or the relaxing Solstice Restaurant, serving craft sandwiches, tasty entrees, and pasta.
Unfortunately, our 48 hours at the three Snow Time Resorts are over (**insert sad face here**). But you'll drive back to D.C. ready to plan trip number two!
