Weekend Report: From rosé garden parties to BBQ bashes, start June on the right foot

Friday, May 31

Jazz in the Garden: The summertime favorite returns! Jazz in the Garden takes place in the Sculpture Garden on the grounds of the National Gallery of Art, every Friday through August 23 from 5-8:30 p.m. During jazz concerts, the Pavilion Café offers a special menu of creative American cuisine and refreshments, including a beer and wine menu. In addition to the return of audience favorites like Black Masala, Son del Caribe, and the Funky Dawgz Brass Band, this year's lineup will feature new performers like Rob Curto's Forró for All, Adwela & the Uprising, and The Bailsmen. Saturday, June 1

Rose All Day: Back for its second year, the highly popular Rosé All Day will kick off June with a day filled with all things pink! With fun live music, multiple rosé bars activated by neighborhood hot spots, wine glass monogramming, perfectly pink instagrammable moments, fierce fashion sketches, and a rose garden lounge with flower crowns will create a fun, vibrant, must-attend event. Tickets start at $10.

NE Eats: Introduce yourself to/ taste your way through locally owned producers from the NE neighborhood, including DC Brau, Right Proper Brewing, One Eight Distilling, MGM Roast Beef, Sloppy Mamas, Ruby Scoops and more. Tickets are $50.

Rockwood's BBQ Bash: Rockwood Sports Bar will celebrate its one-year business anniversary with an all-day BBQ Bash on the restaurant’s outdoor sports-themed patio. Starting at noon, Rockwood will offer specials which include orange crushes, beach bucket cocktails, sangria, raffles, a corn hole tournament, and a live DJ. Free to attend.

Mount Vernon Celebrates Martha Washington: Wish the first First Lady, Martha Washington, a happy birthday at her beloved home. Mount Vernon hosts two naturalization ceremonies in honor of Washington’s 288th birthday. In Mount Vernon’s upper garden, 39 children will become citizens during a special ceremony. One hundred adults will also be naturalized on the estate’s east lawn. Both ceremonies will include special remarks from Mrs. Washington. Tickets start at $11.

Yoga at the Kennedy Center: Enjoy a free, all-levels vinyasa yoga class in the Grand Foyer as part of the Kennedy Center's Sound Health program connecting the performing arts to mind-body wellness. An instructor from a different local yoga studio leads each session, and this weekend instructor Atticus Mooney is teaching. Free to attend.

Sunday, June 2

Books in Bloom: The third annual Books in Bloom will bring together some of the country’s best and brightest authors for a daylong festival featuring readings, panel discussions, children’s activities and even a pop-up bookstore by Busboys & Poets. Authors include Kwame Onwuachi, Edward Lee, Anna Palmer and Jake Sherman, Feminista Jones, Laura Wides-Muñoz and more. Free to attend.
