11 dog-friendly patios and yappy hours in the DMV

The weather is getting warmer, which means afternoons spent drinking a beer and socializing on a patio with your friends are just around the corner! Now, if only you could bring your four-legged best friend with you for these gatherings for the *perfect* spring day...

Well, turns out, you can! Several bars and restaurants in the DMV have pet-friendly patios and some even offer special "yappy hour" treats.

Wet Dog Tavern

According to their website, Wet Dog Tavern is the “1st-pet friendly bar garden” and we can verify it truly is the ultimate spot to hang with your four-legged friends, and your two-legged friends. Pups are ALWAYS allowed at the garden. Wet Dog Tavern has a beautiful story, too - the bar was opened in honor of the owners’ dog Lilly Sophia. In remembrance of her, they also host and participate in many events for local animal charities. Enjoy your favorite drink while socializing with people and pups (who can sip on some water), playing outdoor games like cornhole and more. Their happy hour for humans is Monday-Friday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Midlands DC

This beer garden located in allows dogs outside in the beer garden area at any time. They have bowls with fresh water and yummy treats for your pup to enjoy as you and your friends gather around the picnic tables. Even if it’s a little chilly outside, that’s okay, because the outdoor space has heaters and blankets to keep everyone warm. Happy hour is Monday-Thursday with two-for-one specials on all local drafts and mixed drinks. There is cornhole set up outside for humans to enjoy. Midlands DC offers food, too, and we highly recommend their giant warm pretzels -- they go perfect with beer.

Bardo Brewing

This outdoor riverside beer garden/brewery located right in Navy Yard (near Nationals Stadium) is perfect for beautiful spring days. It has an extensive beer menu and seating for over 750 people, complete with picnic tables. There is plenty of space for your dogs to run and play -- including a section that is fenced in so they can frolic unleashed. They are always welcome to hang out at Bardo Brewing with you. This year, Bardo Brewing even has a brand new pavilion for patrons to enjoy. Honestly, this is the perfect spot to waste away a Saturday with your whole squad.

Dacha Beer Garden

Dacha is one of the most popular beer gardens in DC, and there’s a reason why! From the iconic Liz Taylor mural overlooking the garden, to the extensive drink and snack lists and the all-around cool vibes, it’s the place to be on a nice day. Bonus: it’s always dog friendly.

Radiator DC

Leash up your pup and head to Radiator DC’s dog-friendly patio Mondays-Fridays 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. While your dog is welcome on the patio whenever, happy hour is the best time to be there to score deals on snacks and drinks. This hotel restaurant will sometimes offer dog-themed drink specials for charity, so keep an eye out for those.

Art and Soul

Art and Soul takes "yappy hour" and "pet-friendly" to the next level. They have curated a special menu just for your dog. From a non-alcoholic brew to a frozen beef bone or grilled sirloin, your dog will be dining well from their "Pooch Patio" menu. Humans will satisfied too, of course, with happy hour deals Monday-Friday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Draft beer is $6, wine is $9 and their daily punch is $10. Bar snacks for $5 are also offered.

8 Chains North

Want to spend your afternoon at a winery? We don’t blame you! While many breweries and wineries in the area are pet-friendly outside, 8 Chains North is special because dogs are allowed in the tasting room as long as they are leashed, and there is a fully-fenced outdoor dog park where your pup can roam free. There are tables for you to sit at, a ton of shade, and of course, delicious wine at this Northern Virginia winery.

This ramen and cocktail bar is located in Shaw and offers drinks cleverly named after Charlie Chaplin movies, such as "A Women of Paris" or "The Kid." The bar welcomes pups on their outdoor patio. Dogs can sip fresh water while you sip on their dog-themed drink, "A Dog's Life," made with whiskey, brandy, prosecco, lemon, honey, walnut bitters and a smoked apple ice cube.

City Tap House (DuPont Circle)

City Tap House's DuPont location always welcomes dogs on the patio, with treats and water bowls available to them. Gather your friends and their pups, too, for City Tap House for happy hour Monday-Friday 4-7 p.m. With $4 craft cans, $5 drafts, $7 mixed drinks, $6 house wine and $6 bar snacks, everyone is guaranteed a good time.

Wonderland Ballroom

I've never been to Wonderland Ballroom and not had a good time. This no-frills bar has a great patio for the approaching spring days. Even better, it's pet friendly, which will make good times become great times. Wonderland's happy hour is every day (yes, every day) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Drinks are $2 off during happy hour.

Colada Shop

You can't miss the Colada Shop, with its brightly-colored patio and funky outdoor bar space. Stop on by for Cuban-inspired food and a great cocktail, such as a pina colada or the Hemingway Daiquiri. The dogs, who are always welcome on the patio, will enjoy the special "Apollo Cookies" made specifically for them.
